Earnest & Young

Summary: Expedition EY is an early identification experience geared primarily to attract and prepare Black, Latinx and Native American talent along with Veterans, Students with Disabilities, Women in Tech and LGBT+ plus students. Expedition EY participants will have the opportunity to win scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 by participating in self-led learnings within our online Expedition EY platform.

Research Experience for Undergraduates

Summary: NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers.

Summer Health Professions Education Program

Summary: The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a free summer program for students to explore their interests in medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and more. The program takes place at our 12 partner institutions and offers students a chance to develop healthcare skills, plan academic journeys, get clinical exposure, and network.

The Research Experience for Veteran Undergraduates

Summary: The Research Experience for Veteran Undergraduates is an intense, 9-week summer program hosted by Yale University where enlisted U.S. veteran undergraduate students perform research in a STEM field of their interest and develop skills necessary to become a research scientist.

Scholarships

Hoos Honoring Veterans Scholarship

Summary: This new award for UVA student veterans provides financial support for enrichment programs (e.g. summer courses, study abroad, internships, conferences) not covered by GI Bill benefits. With an award up to $5,000, the Hoos Honoring Veterans Award seeks student veterans from any UVA undergraduate school and have a recommended minimum GPA of 3.2. Recipients with a GPA less than 3.2 will be considered but should explain the extenuating circumstances concerning their GPA in the written application. Preference is given to student veterans, but students from military families are also invited to apply.

Hoo Needs Help exists to support students who need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable emergency expenses. These may be expenses related to situations such as accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire damage, food insecurity, or need for temporary housing.

Patrick Sean Murphy 9/11 Memorial Scholarship

Summary: The Patrick Sean Murphy 9/11 Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a rising 3rd or 4th year student who embodies the values and ideals that Patrick demonstrated during his time at the University. Selection will be based upon a variety of criteria, including academic achievement and contribution to the quality of student life on the Grounds, as well as the qualities of leadership and citizenship envisioned by the University’s founder, Thomas Jefferson
